Some people think i'm surly. Others will tell you I'm grumpy. And still others will simply grimace and mutter, "he's an asshole", under their breath. I like to think I'm just misunderstood. Sure, I complain a lot, but that's just because I notice things. And most of the things I notice are at some level annoying and fully deserving of being brought to the light of day in the form of a complaint. I started karting at the ripe old age of 28 and have just hit the rather pathetic age of 44. I've been involved in the sport in nearly every way imaginable. Club racer, regional racer, national racer. Kart shop grunt, kart shop owner, tuner, mechanic, spectator, magazine writer, photographer and fan. I've helped organize major national events and I like to think I've always been a champion for those people who are the backbone of karting...the racers. Five or six years ago (I forget exactly how long), I started writing for a now defunct karting magazine and discovered that I really, really enjoyed it. Then I started shooting photos for the same now defunct magazine and discovered I liked that as much or more. When I stopped working for the now defunct magazine, I found that I missed the writing and the shooting so I started toying with the idea of this website. So now I've got an excuse to spout off about karting and anything else that annoys me. It's quite cathartic. |

Racing junkie. (Very) Amateur karter. Lover. Fighter. Thinks drifting is cool, but still thinks IMSA GTP was the best racing series ever. Can’t stand Bonnier’s sparkly #49 Tony Kart / PTK. In fact, I chose #94 for my kart just to be his opposite. Well, maybe not, but it’s funny that it worked out that way. In a previous life I was a poorly paid magazine editor at an auto racing magazine. When I realized that I would never amount to anything more than Chief Floor Scrubber with an occasional upgrade to Head of Retrieving Starbucks at said publishing house, I opened my motorsports marketing consultancy (shameless plug - shiftgroup.net). I figured, if I am going to get paid nothing, I may as well get paid nothing and not have a commute. But, thankfully, I spend most of my time developing marketing strategies for companies, series, and teams in karting, drifting, and sportscar racing. On the weekends, I race my Rotax kart. But, as a result of opening my company, I missed the creative outlet that writing gave me. I also worked with Bonnier at a defunct karting magazine (which still owes me money), so I jumped at the chance to write creatively again when he launched (will launch? may launch?) Madkarter. I'm not as old school in karting (or as old) as Bonnier, but I'm completely geeked out on the sport - you'll even find me at indoor karting centers once I've bent too many axles, tie rods, and steering shafts to take my Rotax kart back to the track. |
